Apartment Buildings in The Heights and on Washington Avenue
This is the largest category on the site: 16 buildings of 50 or more units and 4,865 apartments, running from the Washington Avenue corridor and Sawyer Yards up through the Houston Heights to Sunset Heights and Independence Heights. Eleven of the sixteen are in 77007, with the rest in 77008, 77009 and 77018.
Nothing here rises above five floors. The pattern is the mid-rise wrap and the converted warehouse loft: Art House Sawyer Yards, Bellrock Sawyer Yards and Sawyer Heights Lofts in the arts-district blocks off Sawyer Street; The Oliver, Alexan Junction Heights and Heights at 1520 further north; District at Washington and The Core on Washington Avenue itself. District at Washington is the largest address at 396 apartments, and Heights at 1520 and Alta Sunset Heights, both finished in 2024, are the newest.
Only one building in the category predates 2000 — The Avenue Apartments on Yale Street in Independence Heights, built in 1972 — which makes this the most uniformly modern neighborhood in the directory. Addresses along Yale, Heights Boulevard and 11th Street are walkable to the Heights hike-and-bike trail, White Oak Bayou and the 19th Street shops; the Washington Avenue and Sawyer Yards blocks sit closer to downtown and I-10.
Every listing below carries its street address, unit count, year built, floor count, leasing phone number and the property’s own website.
