Zocalo is the most unusual property on the Hammerly apartment corridor. Formerly Hammerly Walk, the two-story 1970s community was reworked in a roughly $10 million renovation into a colorfully repainted campus with a Mexican and Latin American design theme carried through its public spaces. The four floor plans are named Casa Barragan, Casa Rivera, Villa Kahlo and Villa Marfa, and run about 695 to 1,020 square feet across one and two bedrooms.
It also hosts the Zocalo Artist Residency, described as one of the first artist-in-residence programs in the country backed by a commercial real estate owner. Three artists are selected each year, two for six-month terms and one for a full year, and receive a rent-free studio apartment, a monthly stipend and exhibition space on the property.
Day to day the amenities are conventional: a resort-style pool, fitness center, clubhouse with coffee bar and coworking area, a dog park, controlled access and an app-based concierge service. Leasington Property Management operates it. I-10, Beltway 8 and US 290 are all within reach from this part of Spring Branch.
