Avenue J is New Hope Housing’s Second Ward property, an affordable community of one- and two-bedroom apartments built for individuals and families with modest incomes. It broke ground in 2020 as the nonprofit’s tenth affordable development, and it differs from market-rate buildings in the East End in a specific way: rent is priced to be reachable, and on-site resident services are part of the operating model rather than an add-on.

Shared spaces reflect that mission. The building includes a Barbara Bush Family Library, a community lounge, dining and food-prep space, an outdoor terrace with grills, a covered parking garage and 24-hour emergency maintenance. Units have wood-style flooring, granite counters, energy-efficient appliances and washer-dryer connections.

East of downtown with skyline views, the property sits near the Green Line METRORail, with Buffalo Bayou, Discovery Green and the Houston Botanic Garden all reachable. Applicants should expect income qualification and should ask the leasing office about current limits and waitlist status.
